Meet Kayla Rose Moon: the Byron-born, Naarm-based creative behind community-focused brands XFLOS and Stay Soft Studio. A self-proclaimed obsessive, romantic, and nature lover, Kayla is bringing earthy beauty and safe, inclusive spaces to the heart of her community—whether it’s through floristry that transforms unexpected places or hosting femme and queer-led markets and workshops. We talk creativity as a way of life, her upcoming European adventure, and why River by ORB stops strangers in their tracks.
For those who don’t know you, who are you and what do you do?
HELLO! My name is Kayla Rose Moon, yes I grew up in Byron bay. I am a short brown haired, curly faced femme who owns two community focused brands in Naarm, loves deeply, overshares, is obsessive and is most happy in nature. My brands reflect who I am (I believe) XFLOS is a floristry brand that works within community spaces to bring nature where it otherwise would not have been, our shop is always open for community space hire and focuses on creating a safe space for femme, queer and BIPOC events.
Stay Soft Studio is a cowering space and monthly market that hosts a range of artists and makers, encouraging shopping local, collaboration and physical community sharing. I love my friends, my partner, my cat, my yoga practice and the fact that I am finally 30.
What’s your favourite ORB scent and why?
River! It’s so goddamn earthy and sexy and fresh, I AM NOT JOKING, EVERYWHERE I GO PEOPLE STOP AND SMELL! It literally happened this morning whilst I waited for my matcha.
What is your creative outlet?
Oh my whole life, I believe life is all about creation, every little moment can be romantic and creative if you focus on the beautiful, ugly and the exciting or boring. I’ve always been an intensely creative person, juggling many outlets like music, writing etc. People would always say “why don’t you do that as a career?” But my hobbies are mostly private - spiritual outlets (lol except when I share it all on Instagram) in which I relieve myself or feel into my emotions. Creativity is always at an all time high when you don’t monetise everything you damn do. Doing my monthly roster for my staff is creative when choosing the right colours and listening to Beach House in a bitchy outfit mmmm k.
What is your first fragrance memory?
My mother, her oils, her hair, our home. Like wood and flowers and dry grass and burnt sage.
Do you have anything exciting in the works?
Always, growth this year in my mental health awareness, expanding my flowerclub community and hosting femme workshops for tactile sweeties, bigger better markets with more music and food and my first trip to Europe. LIFE IS EXCITING.
If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would you pick, and why?
FUCK ME, Maybe Nils Frahm All Encores. I feel like I could live in that soundtrack for ever for sure. CLASSICAL, MODERN, DREAMY, YUM.
